    Overview

    This grant program by SAMHSA is designed to support the recruitment, training, and support of master’s and doctoral-level students in behavioral health care professions with several key objectives: to increase the mental and substance use disorder behavioral health professionals' knowledge on prevention, treatment, and recovery support for individuals from racial and ethnic minority populations with mental or substance use disorders; to boost the number of culturally competent professionals in mental and substance use disorders fields who teach, administer services, conduct research, and provide direct services to underserved populations; and to enhance the quality of mental and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services delivered to these populations. Eligibility for this grant is limited to nationally representative mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment professional organizations across eight professional fields: psychiatry, nursing, social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, substance use disorder and addictions counseling, and addiction medicine.
