    Type of Support

    Overview

The Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) offers financial and technical support to preserve agricultural lands and restore wetlands affected by farming. It aims to encourage private owners to retain their land for agricultural use and to safeguard vital wetland resources for wildlife habitats and water quality. The ACEP facilitates this conservation through the voluntary sale of an easement, where landowners agree to restrict future development. Wetlands Reserve Easements (WRE) within ACEP focus on providing homes for fish and wildlife, including endangered species, improving water quality, reducing flood risk, recharging groundwater, and protecting biodiversity by restoring wetlands previously affected by agriculture. NRCS aids private landowners and Indian tribes through the purchase of Wetland Reserve Easements, with various enrollment options including permanent, 30-year, and term easements, each offering different levels of financial compensation and restoration funding.
