AL Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program

From USDA: Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)

We deliver conservation solutions so agricultural producers can protect natural resources and feed a growing world.

Type of Support

Overview

The Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program in Alabama offers technical and financial assistance to help communities address imminent threats to life and property caused by various natural disasters like floods, fires, and windstorms, without requiring a disaster declaration by federal or state officials. The EWP encourages locally-led solutions for watershed restoration and protection efforts. Activities supported under this program include debris removal from water bodies, erosion control, repairing damaged drainage facilities and conservation practices, and purchasing floodplain easements. Projects must reduce threats to life and property and adhere to economic, environmental, and social principles and engineering standards.
