    Type of Support

    Overview

The Wetlands Reserve Easements (WRE) program aims to support the restoration, protection, and enhancement of enrolled wetlands. This initiative targets private landowners and American Indian tribes to encourage the creation and preservation of wetland habitats for wildlife, including threatened and endangered species, improve water quality, reduce flooding, replenish groundwater, protect biodiversity, and allow for educational, scientific, and limited recreational use. The program offers financial and technical assistance for these purposes, with specific options for permanent easements, 30-year easements, and 30-year contracts for Indian tribes, covering all associated restoration costs and providing compensation for easement purchases.
