Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants in Alaska

From USDA: Rural Development (RD)

We are committed to helping improve the economy and quality of life in rural America.

Type of Support

Overview

The grant program accepts applications year-round and is designed to assist eligible communities in preparing for, or recovering from, emergencies that threaten the availability of safe, reliable drinking water. Eligible emergencies include droughts, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, disease outbreaks, chemical spills, leaks, seepage, and other disasters. Importantly, a federal disaster declaration is not required to qualify for this assistance. The program offers two types of funding: water transmission line grants of up to $150,000 for constructing waterline extensions, repairing breaks or leaks in existing water distribution lines, and addressing related maintenance necessary to replenish the water supply; and water source grants of up to $1,000,000 to construct a water source, intake, or treatment facility.
