The grant program aims to support qualified organizations in leading local self-help housing construction projects. It focuses on empowering very-low- and low-income families to collaboratively build their own homes in rural areas, with the grant recipients providing supervision and technical assistance. The program prioritizes technical and supervisory aid, enabling participant families to provide most of the construction labor on one another's homes, fostering community development and home ownership. Eligible areas for the projects can be determined through the USDA Eligibility Site, and the funds may be used for a range of support activities including technical assistance, family recruitment, and assistance with loan applications.
