The grant provides support to organizations that assist very-low- and low-income individuals and families in rural areas to construct their own homes through local self-help housing projects. The organizations oversee these groups, providing them with technical guidance and supervising their labor as they work on each other's homes. Eligible uses of the funds include offering technical and supervisory assistance to the families involved in the construction, helping other organizations to provide similar assistance, recruiting families, assisting them with loan applications, and conducting related activities that enable participation in the program.
