This program provides grants to qualified organizations assisting very-low- and low-income individuals and families in constructing their own homes in rural areas. The core of this initiative is based on a self-help model where group members contribute significant labor towards building each other’s homes under the guidance of the overseeing organization. The areas eligible for this program are determined using the USDA Eligibility Site. Funds can be utilized for various purposes including technical and supervisory assistance for participating families, support for organizations offering similar aid, family recruitment, and assistance with the loan application process.
