From USDA: Rural Development (RD)

Type of Support

Overview

This program provides grants to qualified organizations to support the execution of local self-help housing construction projects. It aims to assist groups of very-low- and low-income individuals and families in constructing their own homes in rural areas, advocating for a self-help model where group members contribute significant labor to building each other’s houses under the supervision and technical guidance of the overseeing organization. Eligible areas for these projects can be determined using the USDA Eligibility Site. The use of funds includes giving technical and supervisory assistance to participating families, supporting other organizations in providing similar assistance, and assisting families with recruitment, loan applications, and other activities necessary for project participation.
