    Overview

This grant program supports qualified organizations by funding local self-help housing construction projects targeted at very-low- and low-income individuals and families. The grants enable recipient organizations to guide and provide technical assistance to groups of participants involved in constructing their own homes in rural areas, fostering community participation and skill development. Participants contribute a significant portion of labor towards building each other's homes, promoting a collective work ethic and hands-on learning. The grants can be used for giving technical and supervisory assistance to participant families, aiding other organizations in providing similar assistance, recruiting families, assisting them with loan applications, and facilitating other related activities necessary for their participation in the program. Eligible areas for these projects are defined by the USDA Eligibility Site, which includes specific addresses or general areas in rural settings.
