This grant program aims to support the start-up and growth of microenterprises in rural areas through financial assistance to Microenterprise Development Organizations (MDOs). The broad goals include establishing a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund, providing technical assistance and training to microloan borrowers and microentrepreneurs. Specific causes supported involve aiding rural micro-entrepreneurs or microenterprises with technical assistance up to $205,000 annually and offering loans between $50,000 to $500,000 for creating a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund. Eligible Microenterprise Development Organizations must have experience in managing a Revolving Loan Fund or demonstrate capability through education and successful participation in intermediary lending under the U.S. Small Business Administration Microloan Program or similar initiatives. Funding uses include working capital, debt refinancing, purchasing equipment and supplies, and improving real estate.
