The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) aims to preserve, protect, and perpetuate fish, wildlife and ecosystems while providing sustainable fish and wildlife recreational and commercial opportunities.
The grant program focuses on supporting nearshore restoration and protection projects of regional importance that offer a substantial and cost-effective contribution to the restoration or protection of ecosystem functions, goods, and services in the Puget Sound area. The ESRP identifies four main investment types: Nearshore Restoration and Protection, Regional Pre-Design (Learning), Small Grants, and Shore Friendly initiatives. These projects are fundamentally aligned with the scientific findings and ecosystem restoration strategies of the Puget Sound Nearshore Ecosystem Restoration Project (PSNERP). There are no specified maximum or minimum funding limits for proposed projects, with past awards ranging from $25,000 to $2,600,000. The primary objectives include restoring the size and quality of large river delta estuaries, coastal embayments, beaches, and bluffs, alongside boosting understanding of natural process restoration to enhance the program’s effectiveness.
