The Wilderness Society (TWS) is dedicated to ensuring that public lands are inclusive and welcoming, so both people and nature can thrive. It is committed to equity in its work, aspiring to be inclusive internally as a team and externally in the safeguarding of public lands. TWS works to ensure fair treatment across various demographics and is focused on realizing the promise of our public lands for all, emphasizing universal benefits.
The Gloria Barron Wilderness Society Scholarship supports graduate students showing potential to significantly impact wilderness understanding and protection. This scholarship honors educator and wilderness advocate Gloria Barron and aligns with the Wilderness Society's strategic priorities, including making public lands a solution to climate and extinction crises, and transforming conservation policies for equitable benefit. Priority is given to research in three areas: Bureau of Land Management lands conservation, Old Growth Forests conservation, and Arctic conservation. The goal is to support wide-ranging topics from biodiversity protection to climate change mitigation and social-ecological conservation practices.
