Wawa Donation Request: Gift Baskets, Coffee Coupons, and Foundation Grants (2026 Guide)

About 81% of Wawa donation requests tracked on TheShareWay succeed. Here's how to ask for a gift basket, coffee coupons, pretzels, or water, and when a Wawa Foundation grant fits better.

To request a donation from Wawa, apply online through the Wawa Foundation's application portal at least three weeks before your event. Wawa's in-kind program, Wawa Community Care, gives community and youth organizations a Wawa gift basket, free hot beverage coupons, soft pretzels, or Wawa-branded water, and each organization can receive one in-kind donation per calendar year. About 81% of Wawa donation requests tracked on TheShareWay succeed. If you need money rather than product, the Wawa Foundation also offers Local Connection Grants under $2,500 and larger grants with quarterly application windows. Start from Wawa's Apply for Support page, or track your request on Wawa's TheShareWay page.

Figures as of October 2026, from applications tracked on TheShareWay.

Those are some of the best odds in TheShareWay's directory: Wawa has the third-highest success rate among the 228 companies with at least 500 tracked applications. Wawa responds to donation requests in a median of 2 days, based on applications tracked on TheShareWay. The real constraint is the once-a-year limit, so save your request for the event where a Wawa donation will do the most good.

Which Wawa program fits your request

Wawa splits its giving between two arms, and both start from the same Apply for Support page:

    • Wawa Community Care (in-kind): gift baskets, coupons, and product for local community events and youth organizations. This is what most people mean by a Wawa donation request.
    • The Wawa Foundation (financial grants): cash grants for 501(c)(3) nonprofits working in Wawa's three focus areas of Health, Hunger, and Everyday Heroes.

If you're stocking a silent auction, raffle, or tricky tray, or supplying a community event, ask Wawa Community Care. If you need to fund a program, apply for a grant. School events and youth sports teams looking for a sponsor have a third route through Wawa's local sponsorships, covered below.

    What Wawa donates

Wawa Community Care offers two kinds of in-kind support, as published on Wawa's site in October 2026:

    • Product donations: soft pretzels or Wawa-branded water for your event. Products must be picked up at a local Wawa store and can't be resold at your program or event.
    • Wawa Gift Basket or Free Hot Beverage Coupons: a selection of Wawa gift items and coupons for a silent auction or fundraising event.

Gift baskets are the most common Wawa donation on TheShareWay, accounting for about 7 in 10 approved requests that name an item. Wawa donations tracked on TheShareWay are typically worth $25–$100, with a median of $50. Hot beverage coupons, which nonprofits report receiving in batches of 100 to 250, tend to be the highest-value award and suit volunteer appreciation, teacher appreciation, or events with a big crowd.

In-kind support is funded from a budget for the store, area, or region that covers your event, and Wawa gives only while that budget lasts.

Who is eligible for a Wawa donation

Wawa's application opens with a short eligibility screen, and in-kind requests add one timing rule. Your organization needs to:

    • Serve an area Wawa covers. The screen lists Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
    • Have a tax ID number. The screen asks before you can continue.
    • Give at least three weeks' notice. In-kind requests must be submitted at least three weeks before the event date.

Wawa Community Care is aimed at community and youth organizations in the neighborhoods Wawa serves, and schools and PTAs are among the organizations that report approved Wawa donations in reviews on TheShareWay. Financial grants are stricter: only registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits operating in Wawa's areas can apply, and the request has to support Health, Hunger, or Everyday Heroes.

For grants, the Wawa Foundation's Criteria for Success lists what it won't fund: organizations outside the three focus areas, individuals, private foundations, galas and program ads, organizations without 501(c)(3) status, religious organizations (unless the program serves the wider community regardless of affiliation), political causes, groups whose main purpose is lobbying, sports sponsorships, performing arts, and commercial purposes.

How to submit a Wawa donation request

    1. Check your timing. Your event must be at least three weeks after the day you submit. Earlier is better, because in-kind support depends on the local budget.
    2. Make sure you haven't used this year's donation. Each organization gets one in-kind donation per calendar year, so if Wawa supported your spring event, your fall event waits until January.
    3. Open the application. Go to Wawa's Apply for Support page and click "Apply For Support." The button opens Wawa's application portal, hosted by CyberGrants.
    4. Answer the eligibility screen. Confirm the states you serve and that you have a tax ID, then choose "In-Kind Donation" (or "Financial Support" for a grant).
    5. Create a login and complete the In-Kind Application. First-time users set a password. Have your organization's legal name and tax ID, a contact person, your event's name, date, and location, and a short description of the event and who it serves. Ask for the one item you want most, since an approval covers a single in-kind donation. TheShareWay's donation request letter template covers the same points if you want help describing your event.
    6. Accept the product terms. You'll check a box agreeing not to resell products, to store them properly, and not to use them past their sell-by date. Read Wawa's terms before you submit.
    7. Log the request on Wawa's TheShareWay page so you have the submission date and a reminder to follow up.

    After you apply

Nonprofits reviewing Wawa on TheShareWay describe approvals arriving anywhere from 24 hours to a few days after they applied, sometimes after a short email with follow-up questions.

How the donation reaches you depends on what you asked for. Pretzels and water are picked up at a local Wawa store, per Wawa's terms. Nonprofits on TheShareWay report that gift baskets and hot beverage coupons usually arrive by mail ahead of the event, with no pickup needed. If something outside Wawa's control gets in the way, its terms say Wawa will try to provide an equal alternative.

Once the donation arrives, a thank-you letter to your local store keeps the relationship warm for next year's request.

Declines are uncommon, and the reasons nonprofits recorded on TheShareWay usually come down to three things: the organization had already received a Wawa donation that calendar year, it was outside Wawa's service area, or the request didn't fit the Health, Hunger, and Everyday Heroes focus areas. Wait for the new calendar year, or frame your next request around the community your event serves.

    Wawa Foundation grants

If your nonprofit needs funding rather than product, the Wawa Foundation makes financial grants to registered 501(c)(3) organizations operating in Wawa's areas. Every request has to fit Health, Hunger, or Everyday Heroes, and there are two sizes.

Local Connection Grants (under $2,500). Local nonprofits submit an online inquiry through the same portal, choosing "Financial Support," and should hear back from a Wawa Foundation representative within four weeks. Inquiries are considered on a rolling basis while the year's budget lasts. Once it runs out, further inquiries are declined for the rest of the year and Wawa encourages you to reapply the next year, so apply early in the calendar year. TheShareWay tracks this program on its Wawa Local Connection Grants page.

Grants over $2,500. These open in four submission windows each year: January, April, July, and October. During a window you submit a grant request and a Letter of Inquiry, and Wawa responds before the next window opens. If the Foundation approves your Letter of Inquiry, it may ask for more information. Wawa's Letters of Inquiry guide says each letter must include:

    • A summary of the project or general request for support
    • The geographic area or areas you serve
    • Project goals, including the number of people served
    • The amount you're requesting, plus administrative costs as a percentage of total revenue for your most recent fiscal year and the budgeted percentage for this year
    • Any previous support from Wawa or the Wawa Foundation

TheShareWay tracks this program on its Wawa Foundation Financial Grants page.

Wawa's community page also describes Key Issue Grants, which target issues the Foundation chooses, run on set start and end dates, and generally range from $1,000 to $10,000. Check Wawa's community page to see whether one is open.

Other ways to work with Wawa

Local sponsorships. Wawa's local marketing team supports community needs in four areas: education, sports and clubs, community events, and business-to-business. This is the route for school events and youth sports teams, which fall outside the Foundation's grant criteria. Wawa asks for at least 4 to 6 weeks of lead time, and requests go through Wawa's sponsorship portal. TheShareWay tracks it on its Wawa Local Sponsorships page.

Food donations for pantries. Wawa's Food Donation program sends some of its hot food items to local food pantries. Details are on Wawa's community page.

If Wawa can't help this time

Because of the once-a-year limit, most organizations need other donors for their remaining events. Two regional chains that overlap with Wawa's footprint have strong records on TheShareWay: Wegmans, where about 47% of tracked requests succeed, and Sheetz, at about 32%. TheShareWay's list of popular in-kind donors is the fastest way to find more by state.

    Frequently asked questions

    • How do I request a donation from Wawa?

Apply online through the Wawa Foundation's portal, which opens from the "Apply For Support" button at wawa.com/thewawafoundation/apply-for-support. A short screen asks which states you serve and whether you have a tax ID, then you choose "In-Kind Donation" for a gift basket, coupons, pretzels, or water, or "Financial Support" for a grant. In-kind requests must be submitted at least three weeks before your event. About 81% of Wawa donation requests tracked on TheShareWay succeed, and Wawa responds in a median of 2 days.

    • What does Wawa donate to nonprofits and schools?

Through Wawa Community Care, Wawa donates soft pretzels or Wawa-branded water for events, plus Wawa gift baskets and free hot beverage coupons for silent auctions and fundraising events. Gift baskets are the most common Wawa donation on TheShareWay, accounting for about 7 in 10 approved requests that name an item, and Wawa donations tracked on TheShareWay are typically worth $25–$100, with a median of $50. Schools and PTAs are among the organizations that report approved Wawa donations on TheShareWay, and Wawa's local sponsorship program separately covers education and youth sports.

    • How far in advance should I submit a Wawa donation request?

Submit an in-kind request at least three weeks before your event date, and earlier if you can, because Wawa gives only while the budget for your store, area, or region lasts. Local sponsorship requests need at least 4 to 6 weeks of lead time. Wawa Foundation grants over $2,500 are accepted only during the January, April, July, and October submission windows.

    • How often can my organization get a Wawa donation?

Each organization can receive one Wawa in-kind donation per calendar year, so pick the event where a gift basket, coupons, pretzels, or water will help most. Already receiving a Wawa donation that year is one of the most common reasons nonprofits on TheShareWay record for a Wawa decline. Local Connection Grant inquiries also stop being funded once the year's budget is used up, and Wawa encourages declined applicants to reapply the following year.

    • Does the Wawa Foundation give grants to nonprofits?

Yes. The Wawa Foundation makes financial grants to registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits operating in Wawa's areas whose work fits Health, Hunger, or Everyday Heroes. Local Connection Grants under $2,500 are considered on a rolling basis while funds last, with a reply within four weeks. Grants over $2,500 require a Letter of Inquiry submitted during the January, April, July, or October window, and Wawa responds before the next window opens. The Foundation does not fund individuals, private foundations, galas, sports sponsorships, performing arts, political causes, or commercial purposes.
