The American Musicological Society exists to expand understanding of music and sound through research, teaching, learning, and advocacy. To achieve this, the Society supports a variety of initiatives including grants, fellowships, publications, public programs, and professional support for its members. Central to its mission is the promotion of equity, access, and inclusion.
The Eileen Southern Travel Fund grant program offers travel grants for minority undergraduates and terminal master’s degree candidates interested in pursuing careers in musicology. It allows them to attend the AMS Annual Meeting by covering expenses for travel, lodging, and registration, and provides a one-year complimentary AMS membership. The program includes mentoring, networking with graduate program representatives in musicology, and participation in meetings and sessions, promoting a supportive community and professional development opportunities.
