To promote the growth and development of plant biology, to encourage and publish research in plant biology, and to promote the interests, growth, and education of plant scientists in general.
The Mary Clutter Leadership in Science Public Service Award, established by the American Society of Plant Biologists, aims to recognize individuals who have notably advanced ASPB’s mission and contributed to plant science through significant public policy leadership. The award, named to honor the contributions of the 2006 recipient, seeks to acknowledge those whose work benefits the broader society and is relevant to plant biologists, regardless of the recipient's background in plant science. Award winners are given the opportunity to address the Society during its annual meeting, showcasing their contributions and reinforcing the connection between plant science and public service.
