The American Music Abroad (AMA) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, is aimed at fostering global connections through the medium of music. Rooted in the legacy of 70 years of musical diplomacy, including the historic Jazz Ambassadors programs of the 1950s, AMA is committed to using music as a universal language for cultural diplomacy to unite people across the world.
The American Music Abroad (AMA) program for the 2022-2023 Tour Season focuses on promoting cultural diplomacy by selecting ten bands, each consisting of three to five members showcasing exceptional musical talent and versatility. These bands will embark on international tours to one or two countries over a period of 17-20 days, adhering to a schedule set between September 2022 and May 2023. This initiative supports a wide array of musical genres and aims to create sustainable cross-cultural connections by collaborating with U.S. Embassies worldwide. Finalists are chosen through a competitive process including virtual auditions. Each participating musician will receive a $300 honorarium per programming day, with the program covering all associated travel and production expenses.
