The Corporation’s purpose is to honor the work of Hannah B. Chickering, who dedicated herself to aiding female prisoners and their children in the 19th Century. It aims to support programs and organizations focused on meeting the needs of women and children in crisis, with the overarching goal of helping them achieve health, safety, independence, and self-sufficiency.
The Chickering Foundation is focused on promoting and supporting agencies that align with Hannah B. Chickering’s mission. It looks to provide financial assistance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of women and children being served. The foundation prioritizes projects and programs that: rely on private funding, offer community-based resources in Eastern Massachusetts, foster long-term support networks for jobs, housing, and life skills, and raise public awareness about the needs of women and children. Approved agencies receive a foundation manager and undergo an annual review, with the potential for some one-time grants.
