Colorado Parks and Wildlife aims to advance and balance outdoor recreation with conservation efforts across the state of Colorado. They focus on collaboration and networking to support their mission.
The Shooting Range Small Grant Program, administered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, is designed to support the improvement of public and private shooting range facilities throughout Colorado. Specifically, the grants target enhancements that facilitate hunter education, public sight-in days, and overall recreational shooting opportunities. This program is funded by proceeds from the Hunting and Fishing license plate sales, directly earmarked for enhancing shooting sports. Annually, about five projects receive funding, with grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 each. Successful projects must offer public benefits and include matching contributions from non-state sources, either as cash or in-kind (e.g., labor, supplies, equipment use). Priority is given to projects that expand shooting range access, improve facilities for hunter education, enable hunter sight-in and practice, and increase youth engagement in shooting sports. Examples of previously funded initiatives include enhancements to physical infrastructure like parking lots, shooting benches, target stands, shade shelters, and concrete walkways.
