The Duff McDuff Green, Jr. Fund is committed to honoring the philanthropic legacy of Duff McDuff Green Jr. by supporting causes he valued profoundly: landscape preservation and fostering opportunities for children to engage in healthy outdoor activities.
The Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program, initiated by The Community Foundation, allows regional youth to have decision-making authority and funding to tackle important youth issues in their community. Established in 2005, YIP educates teenagers on the value of giving and community service, promotes youth involvement in philanthropy, and empowers them to address issues important to them. With over 40 participants annually from Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Caroline, and Fredericksburg, the program encourages student leadership and community engagement. Participants, which include 10th to 12th graders, are tasked with identifying community needs, preparing and distributing Requests for Proposal, reviewing grant applications, conducting site visits, and making funding recommendations. Each YIP session ends with members awarding a $10,000 grant to a deserving initiative.
