The mission of the Berwick Health and Wellness Fund is to select, identify, and invest in programs and projects that improve the health and welfare of the community, interpreting "health" and "wellness" broadly to encompass a wide variety of efforts impacting the community’s overall well-being.
The Youth in Philanthropy program, run by the Community Giving Foundation, involves students from various schools in the process of granting funds to youth-related projects. Each participating school group, consisting of more than 190 students in total, is responsible for allocating up to $5,000. The program's broad goals include providing students with a hands-on experience in philanthropy and a deeper understanding of community needs. Through conducting needs assessment surveys in their schools and communities, students identify funding priorities, review grant applications, and ultimately decide on the allocation of funds. The specific causes supported are defined by the unique priorities of each school group, which are determined through their own research and consensus. Grant applications are managed through a web-based program, emphasizing the importance of technology and organization in the philanthropic process.
