The Idaho Commission for Libraries aims to enhance the capabilities of Idaho public libraries.
The Kindergarten Readiness grant program is focused on increasing the capacity of Idaho public libraries to prepare preschool children for school success. It encourages libraries to collaborate with local school districts and community partners to extend their reach to children and their families before school enrollment. The initiative aims to ensure more families, especially those without regular access to preschool programs or library services, receive library cards. It seeks to enhance early literacy activities in homes statewide and foster effective partnerships between public libraries, schools, and community organizations to improve reading proficiency by the third grade. The grant offers two types of funding: the Standard Grant with awards up to $10,000 and the Mini Grant with awards ranging from $500 to $5,000, both aimed at supporting pre-kindergarten experiences and assisting underserved children.
