    Overview

The Healthy Estuaries Grant Program provided by MassBays, with funding from the EPA, supports projects that contribute to the goals outlined in their Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan. This includes efforts to fill knowledge gaps, demonstrate innovative monitoring and protection methods for near-shore habitats, and prepare for future restoration projects. Specifically, the grant focuses on:

    • Characterizing habitats and biological communities in estuaries, rocky intertidal zones, and beaches.
    • Documenting impacts of stressors on these habitats.
    • Evaluating the effectiveness of existing restoration efforts.
    • Designing restoration projects that could receive future funding, especially in underserved communities. The program emphasizes policy support, coastal infrastructure improvements for habitat and water quality enhancements, coastal restoration prioritization, data collection to inform assessments, addressing climate change impacts, water quality optimization, habitat condition improvements, innovative data management technologies, and evaluating the impact of various environmental initiatives.
