To inspire us to come together in creative and freely expressed ways to deepen our understanding of ourselves and enrich our communities. Michigan Humanities aims to be a sustainable, passionate, unifying force leading the humanities throughout the state.
Humanities Grants by Michigan Humanities emphasize collaboration among cultural, educational, and community-based organizations and institutions to serve Michigan’s people with public humanities programming. These grants aim to define our culture, our state, our community, and ourselves, connecting us to Michigan’s rich cultural heritage and historical resources. The grants support initiatives that help people reason together and learn from one another, shaping individual and community identities, posing fundamental questions about humanity, and uniting us with the broader human experience. Supported projects may include events, museum exhibitions, film and book discussions, documentaries, performances, and other public activities. Each project requires the participation of at least one humanities professional or scholar to encourage dialogue, critical thinking, analysis, and to contribute essential knowledge and resources.
