The Mississippi Division of Medicaid oversees the allocation of Federally Imposed Civil Money Penalty Funds, aiming to enhance the care and well-being of residents in nursing facilities by supporting activities that meet or exceed federal health and safety regulations.
The grant program utilizes Civil Money Penalties (CMPs), fines collected from nursing facilities falling short of federal health and safety standards, to fund projects that directly or indirectly uplift the quality of life and care for residents in such facilities. Encouraging applications from nursing facility providers, stakeholders, and other organizations, the program focuses on quality improvement initiatives outside the realm of normal facility operations. These initiatives should leverage current and evidence-based practices to promote residents' care and quality of life. Examples of allowable funding uses include aiding residents in facility closures or decertifications, supporting resident and family councils, facility improvement efforts, quality care training, enhancement of quality of life, facilitation of social interactions, and providing communicative technology for resident use.
