NXTHVN is a groundbreaking institution that blends the best of arts and entrepreneurship to launch the careers of artists and curators while strengthening the livelihood of its local community. Based in the historically African-American Dixwell neighborhood of New Haven, CT, it offers a space that includes galleries, studios, offices, and living spaces. Founded by Titus Kaphar and Jason Price, NXTHVN aims to develop an equitable society through access, education, programming, and impact investing.
NXTHVN's Fellowship Program annually selects up to seven artists and two curators for a 10-month intensive, offering them studio or office space, a stipend, and subsidized housing. This mentorship-driven program is opened to an international pool of applicants who are willing to relocate to New Haven. It focuses on professional development through sessions with visiting artists, curators, scholars, and practitioners. Fellows are paired with high school Apprentices for mutual one-on-one learning, aiming to foster the next generation in creative fields. The program culminates in an annual group show at a prominent gallery space.
