Since 1999, the Petco Foundation has been dedicated to supporting initiatives that save lives of pets and improve their welfare. By partnering with animal welfare organizations and Petco stores nationwide, they focus on adoption, medical care, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, and more, aiming to make the biggest possible impact on animal welfare.
The Petco Foundation grants program is designed to support sheltering and adoption organizations through careful and responsible investment in initiatives that have a clear lifesaving impact. Eligible organizations include nonprofit foster-based rescues, municipal or nonprofit agencies responsible for animal control sheltering, and nonprofits, SPCAs, or Humane Societies operating shelters and performing adoptions. The program emphasizes the importance of success, accountability, and the prudent use of funds, expecting recipient organizations to continually strive for excellence in saving animal lives. The grants prioritize organizations that demonstrate an ability to significantly increase their lifesaving rates, support a substantial number of animals, and show how the funds will aid in their efforts. Lifesaving impact awards, which are grants of $100,000 or more or multi-year awards, are available but limited and require a detailed plan for increasing the community's lifesaving percentage. Organizations are categorized by type and must submit an Annual Partnership Report alongside their application to be considered.
