The San Francisco Arts Commission champions the arts as essential to daily life by investing in a vibrant arts community, enlivening the urban environment, and shaping innovative cultural policy. It envisions a San Francisco where art's transformative power strengthens neighborhoods, builds infrastructure, and fosters social change, creating a vibrant city where creativity, prosperity, and progress go hand in hand.
The Community Investments program, including the Native American Arts and Cultural Traditions Special Grant (NAACT-SPX), supports San Francisco-based artists, arts organizations, and communities with an equity lens through grants, technical assistance, arts education initiatives, and community-based Cultural Centers. Specifically, the NAACT-SPX offers up to $100,000 for two Arts and/or Cultural Service Provider organizations rooted in San Francisco’s Native American communities. The focus is on uplifting cultural traditions, emergent art forms, and celebrating the resurgence and resilience of these communities. Funded projects should activate the San Francisco arts ecosystem with artists, artwork, and events highlighting Native American culture and traditions. Organizations are expected to demonstrate their history and experience with Native American communities in San Francisco, articulate a clear criteria and process for fund redistribution, and ensure budgets reflect payments to local artists and projects.
