SEARCA's mission focuses on promoting, undertaking, and coordinating research programs relevant to inclusive and sustainable agricultural and rural development in the Southeast Asian region. Its efforts are aimed at addressing funding gaps that hinder the realization of significant contributions by researchers and scientists to the region's development through research and knowledge dissemination.
The SEARCA Seed Fund for Research and Training (SFRT) is designed to support promising researchers and scientists in the Southeast Asian region who lack the necessary funds to carry out their projects. The grant aims to provide start-up funds for research and training project proposals that can make significant contributions to the development of the region, particularly in areas aligned with Inclusive and Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development (ISARD). The grant program supports projects that focus on social inclusion, sustainable agriculture and rural development, regional and sub-regional cooperation, and institutions and governance. Projects should be innovative, have the potential for significant long-term funding support, be completable within a year, detail plans for future funding support, and specify a plan for dissemination of results. The expected outputs include a research report publishable as a discussion paper, at least one policy brief or note, and, when possible, presentation of results in scientific forums or conferences.
