The Smith Richardson Foundation's mission is to contribute to important public debates and to help address serious public policy challenges facing the United States. It seeks to improve public policy and public understanding of issues by supporting innovative research and analysis.
The Smith Richardson Foundation's Strategy and Policy Fellows grant competition aims to support young scholars and policy thinkers in the areas of American foreign policy, international relations, international security, military policy, and diplomatic and military history. Its main goal is to bolster the U.S. community of scholars and researchers engaged in policy analysis within these domains. The Foundation allocates at least three research grants each year, amounting to $60,000 each, intended to support recipients in researching and writing a book. This program targets junior or adjunct faculty, research associates, and post-docs in academia, as well as rising members within the think tank community who are concentrated on U.S. strategic and foreign policy issues.
