The Society for Freshwater Science promotes understanding of freshwater ecosystems globally and facilitates scientific exchange among members and with external entities, including policymakers and the public. Its focus encompasses the study of freshwater organism genetics, ecosystem functions, physical processes affecting freshwaters, and the influence of surrounding landscapes. Applied research areas include habitat and water quality assessment, conservation, fisheries, invasive species management, water resource management, and restoration efforts.
The Fellows program of the Society for Freshwater Science recognizes individuals who have shown sustained excellence in freshwater science research, policy, or management at national and international levels. These Fellows are acknowledged leaders in their specific areas of freshwater science. The program encourages its Fellows to actively participate in SFS activities, utilizing their expertise to make a positive impact. Fellows are nominated by SFS members, and a selection committee of existing Fellows chooses two new Fellows annually. This initiative supports the society’s broader goals by leveraging the expertise of distinguished members for the advancement of freshwater science and its application.
