    The William Spackman Student Research Award, organized by The Society for Organic Petrology, supports graduate thesis research in organic petrology. This initiative, established to honor William Spackman's pivotal role in the field and his dedication to coal education, aims to underscore the importance and utility of organic petrology in academic research. Candidates for this award are encouraged to demonstrate how their research contributes to solving problems within the thesis scope, underpinning the broader goals of advancing knowledge and application in organic petrology and related disciplines. Additionally, the program offers unsuccessful applicants a chance to engage with the TSOP community by providing a one-year Student Membership at no cost.
