As You Sow’s toxic enforcement cases often lead to settlement agreements with monetary restitution. This restitution funds investigations, research, and enforcement of environmental laws in California, as well as a grant program supporting non-profit organizations working on toxics reduction, environmental education, protection of communities, and enforcement. Since 1992, over $2.1 million has been granted to more than 100 organizations. Grant priorities include enforcement of California state consumer protection and toxic exposure laws, education of California consumers on the risks of toxic exposure and their rights, toxics education, reduction, remediation, prevention, and protection in California communities, especially under-represented and underserved ones. Proposals for grants are considered if they have a California-based environmental or toxic enforcement component.
