Library Grants

The Tocker Foundation was established by Phillip and Olive Tocker to further their philanthropic interests. After years of supporting a broad range of causes, the Foundation identified a unique need in small, rural Texas libraries serving populations of 12,000 or less. Consequently, the foundation now focuses on partnering with these community libraries to address their specific needs, enriching local communities through improved library services.

    Overview

Library Grants aim to support the multifaceted role of rural libraries as community anchors and gathering places. The grants focus on a wide range of improvements including, but not limited to, expanded patron spaces, automation, enhanced computer and internet access, collection updates, and the introduction of various social services. Funding can cover collection development, technology and hardware, programming, furniture, shelving, and outreach. These grants are evaluated bi-annually by a committee of the Texas Library Association, with the board of directors making the final funding decisions. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their projects with the office before submission, indicating a flexible approach to potential grant categories.
