Our mission – to plant and care for trees and the environment by empowering people, building community, and promoting stewardship – is fulfilled through cutting-edge programs and innovative practices.
Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning is aimed at promoting visionary and strategic thinking about transportation improvements in smaller communities across Iowa. The program's essential goals include facilitating community engagement in identifying and prioritizing transportation needs, developing conceptual plans for envisioned transportation projects, sourcing potential funding, and initiating project development. By employing Trees Forever field coordinators and leveraging the expertise of landscape architecture consultants and ISU research, the program seeks to craft and refine transportation enhancement plans with input from the community. These plans can encompass a wide range of enhancements such as pedestrian and bicyclist facilities, safety activities, scenic acquisitions, historical preservation, beautification efforts, and the conversion of unused rail corridors into trails, aligning with broader federal funding criteria set by the FHWA for surface transportation improvements.
