The mission of the United Kingdom’s Blue Planet Fund is to support the advancement and research in marine sciences, focusing on funding educational opportunities and research initiatives aimed at understanding and preserving marine ecosystems.
The OCEAN Grants Programme, underpinned by the UK’s efforts towards sustainable marine conservation, supports projects that promise long-term, positive effects on the marine environment and its local stakeholders, particularly focusing on coastal communities. Aimed at directly contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 14, Life Below Water, the program offers financial assistance for the development and implementation of sustainable, impactful solutions to enhance marine environments on a broad scale. It addresses the critical need for continued investment in achieving global climate change objectives via sustainable development, highlighting the disproportionate lack of funding SDG 14 has received. The programme invites medium to large organizations with a strong background in executing impactful projects to apply for grants ranging from £250,000 to £3 million, for projects up to five years in duration, evaluated through a two-stage application process.
