    The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) is a component of the U.S. Department of Justice. OVW implements the provisions of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and provides national leadership on the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking.

    The OVW Fiscal Year 2024 Special Tribal Criminal Jurisdiction Grant Program supports tribes in various efforts related to exercising special Tribal criminal jurisdiction (STCJ) over non-Indians for crimes such as domestic violence, sexual assault, and others within tribal lands. It covers a wide range of activities including strengthening tribal criminal justice systems, providing indigent criminal defendants with defense counsel, ensuring proper jury processes, and according victims rights consistent with Tribal law. Specific areas of support include law enforcement capacity, prosecution, courts, corrections, treatment and rehabilitation services, and development of criminal codes and procedures.
