    Type of Support

    Overview

This grant program aims to provide disaster reimbursement and assistance funds specifically to State Units on Aging (SUAs) and federally recognized Tribal Organizations that are already beneficiaries under Title VI of the Older Americans Act (OAA), as amended. The goal is to support these entities in areas officially designated as suffering from major disasters by the President of the United States under the Robert T. Stafford Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. The funding, the total amount of which depends on the appropriations available, is designed to cover various gap-filling services such as outreach, information and assistance, counseling, case management, advocacy for older persons, as well as immediate needs like additional food and meals, emergency medications, and the replacement of damaged equipment in senior centers. The grant underlines the importance of utilizing these funds for expenses that cannot be covered by other disaster funding resources. It encourages eligible SUAs and OAA Title VI grantees to coordinate with ACL Regional staff and local emergency management to explore other available resources before applying, ensuring that the support provided fills critical gaps without duplicating existing aid.
