The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) provides equitable health care to the nation’s highest-need communities. Our programs support people with low incomes, people with HIV, pregnant people, children, parents, rural communities, transplant patients, and the health workforce.
The Supporting Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Screening and Intervention program is dedicated to reducing alcohol use during pregnancy and enhancing outcomes for children impacted by FASD across the nation, with a particular focus on areas exhibiting high rates of binge drinking during pregnancy. The program seeks to educate Primary Care Providers on the risks associated with alcohol consumption during pregnancy and to increase the implementation of screening, intervention, and referral processes for pregnancies at high risk. It aims at improving PCPs’ understanding of FASD and equipping them with skills for identifying and managing the disorder, especially through effective communication with affected families. Targeting at least 80 practices over five years, the initiative prioritizes long-term positive changes, paying special attention to rural and medically underserved communities.
