The US-Ireland Alliance aims to nurture and build the relationship between the United States and Ireland through various educational, cultural, and partnership initiatives. Named in honor of Senator George J. Mitchell's key role in the Northern Ireland peace process, the alliance seeks to foster connections between American future leaders and Ireland, promoting academic excellence, leadership, and public service.
The George J. Mitchell Scholarship is designed for U.S. citizens to pursue postgraduate study in Ireland and Northern Ireland, focusing on introducing and connecting future American leaders to the island. It celebrates academic achievement, leadership, and continuous dedication to community and public service. The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, and a living stipend, supporting scholars for one academic year. Candidates are selected based on scholarship, leadership, and a sustained commitment to community and public service. Up to twelve scholars aged 18 to 30 are chosen annually, reflecting a wide range of backgrounds, including diversity in educational institutions and work experiences.
