The mission of the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) is to alleviate the suffering inflicted on animals by people. It aims to improve the treatment of animals everywhere—in the laboratory, on the farm, in commerce, at home, and in the wild.
The "Animals in Laboratories" grant program focuses on decreasing the suffering of animals used in scientific research through advocacy, education, and the development of alternative methods to animal testing. It supports initiatives aimed at refining current animal testing practices to minimize pain, replacing animals where possible with non-animal models, and ultimately reducing the number of animals used in research and testing.
