ACF aims to tackle the root causes of poverty and oppression in the Appalachian regions of Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. The foundation supports community-based initiatives striving for social, economic, racial, and environmental justice in Central Appalachia.
The General Fund grant program by ACF annually supports grassroots organizations working towards social change in the specified Appalachian counties. These grants focus on providing general support and funding specific projects or programs aligning with ACF's mission. The foundation prioritizes organizations with plans for social change through organizing and education. Projects addressing racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, ageism, and ableism, promoting non-violent communities, and aiming to build fair, inclusive, and democratic organizations are particularly encouraged. Start-up projects are also welcomed.
