The mission of ASLO (Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography) is to advance the sciences of limnology and oceanography and to communicate research that supports conservation, resource management, and policies by fostering education and providing a community for researchers and educators.
ASLO's grant program aims to honor significant contributions within the aquatic sciences through a variety of awards. These awards recognize achievements across several categories, including outstanding papers by young scientists (Raymond L. Lindeman Award), mid-career accomplishments (G. Evelyn Hutchinson Award), lifetime achievements (A.C. Redfield Lifetime Achievement Award), application of science to environmental issues (Ruth Patrick Award), papers with significant impact on research (John Martin Award), excellence in education (Ramon Margalef Excellence in Education Award), contributions by early-career scientists (Yentsch-Schindler Early Career Award), recognition for members with unfulfilled potential due to early death or disability (Victoria J. Bertics Memorial Award for Aquatic Science), and notable service to ASLO (Tommy and Yvette Edmondson Distinguished Service Award). Each award focuses on different aspects of the aquatic sciences field, highlighting both scientific contributions and service to the community and society.
