This funder's mission is to enhance the lives of residents in Brooklyn by supporting organizations deeply committed to the community. They prioritize organizations led by members of the communities they serve, offer multi-year general operating support whenever possible, and apply a racial justice lens to their efforts.
The Spark Prize aims to award over $600,000 annually to organizations in Brooklyn with a proven track record in tackling critical local challenges and opportunities, particularly emphasizing equity and racial justice, creativity and impact, adherence to strong institutional values, and a clear, dynamic vision for their future work both within Brooklyn and broader contexts. This grant celebrates organizations born in Brooklyn, committed to equity, and with a strong vision for their future, by offering $100,000 to five nonprofits annually, selected through a competitive process. Additionally, twenty finalists receive up to $5,000 in matching funds during the #BrooklynGives on Giving Tuesday campaign to bolster local donor support.
