Overview

The Forest Conservation Program is dedicated to planning, acquisition, and restoration projects throughout California's forests, aligning with the Board's Strategic Plan. Established by the Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2006 (Proposition 84), the program focuses on maintaining the ecological integrity and economic stability of various forest types, including water resource conservation and native habitat. Further funding from the California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access For All Act of 2018 (Proposition 68) extended its reach to include upper watershed lands' protection and improvement in the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountains. Supported projects can include meadow restoration, forest thinning for hazard fuel reduction, post-fire restoration, and aspen stand enhancement, among others.
