The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region aims to address various social, educational, cultural, and charitable needs within the Dan River Region, which encompasses Danville/Pittsylvania County to South Boston/Halifax County and neighboring North Carolina counties. Established in 1996 by local civic leaders, the Foundation supports this mission through grants funded by earnings on its endowment assets to nonprofit organizations throughout the region.
The Community Foundation’s Competitive Grants support a wide range of causes through three main fund categories: the Community Impact Fund, Field of Interest Funds, and Donor Advised Funds. The Community Impact Fund consists of various unrestricted funds supporting diverse community needs. Field of Interest Funds allow donors to target their support towards specific areas such as youth, elderly, the arts, education, environment, medical, and more. Lastly, Donor Advised Funds are established by donors who want to have a say in which organizations their funds support. Through these competitive grants, the Foundation seeks to make a meaningful impact across the Dan River Region, backing initiatives that address the unique challenges and opportunities within the community.
