The mission of the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis is to strengthen our community through philanthropy. This involves developing and managing charitable funds, addressing community needs, advocating for positive change, and encouraging philanthropy among individuals, families, businesses, and community institutions.
The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis awards Nonprofit Capacity Building grants to bolster the organizational strength and overall health of Mid-South nonprofits. These financial grants support one-time projects that improve management, governance, and administration aspects of the organizations as part of their strategic planning, rather than direct programmatic enhancements. Grantees are required to raise matching funds, with the average grant amount being around $15,000. Projects funded include evaluations of core programs, staff or board training, technology system assessments or upgrades, human resources or fundraising planning, and organizational mergers or formal collaborations.
