Embracing our co-operative model, we provide responsible, innovative leadership and support to the Co-operative Retailing System for the benefit of members, employees and Canadian communities.
The Co-op Community Spaces Program aims to enrich communities in Western Canada by providing funding for projects that create or improve public spaces. With a commitment of $1 million annually, the program supports the development of places where Canadians can meet, play, learn, and share. Since its initiation in 2015, the program has allocated $10.5 million in capital funding to 147 local projects. Grants awarded range from $25,000 to $150,000 and cover three primary categories: Recreation (e.g., recreation centers, playgrounds), Environmental Conservation (e.g., green spaces, interpretive centers), and Urban Agriculture (e.g., community gardens, food education facilities), thereby reflecting the program’s broad goals of fostering community health, enhancing social connections, and promoting sustainable development practices.
