The mission of the funder is to support projects that deepen understanding about Japan, promote cross-cultural exchange, and nurture global perspectives among K-12 students, teachers, and the community in the United States.
The Institutional Project Support - Small Grant Program is designed for U.S.-based institutions/organizations with 501(c)(3) status, providing institutional funding up to a maximum of $25,000 for up to one year. This program aims to support proposals that maintain and advance the infrastructural scale of Japanese Studies at their institution. The grant covers salaries for full-time or part-time faculty, instructors, or staff, travel expenses, honoraria for lectures, research and teaching materials, conference and seminar-related expenses, and library and digital resource support. However, costs for receptions, lunch/dinner, and refreshments, as well as library and digital resource support, may be given lower funding priority.
