The Kentucky Academy of Science's mission is to foster scientific discovery and understanding in Kentucky.
The grant program provided by the Kentucky Academy of Science Foundation through the Marcia Athey Fund and the Botany Fund is designed to support scientific research across various disciplines. Eligible research must be conducted within Kentucky, though it recognizes some investigations may extend beyond its borders. Both secondary and higher education students can apply, with the condition that they conduct their research under the supervision of a faculty member. In certain cases, faculty research projects may also be funded. The program offers funding for a second year if needed. All applicants must be members of the Kentucky Academy of Science. Allowable costs under this grant include nominal stipends for students, travel within Kentucky, small equipment and supplies not available at the sponsoring institution, and support for publishing research results in refereed journals. Publications resulting from the funded research must acknowledge the support from the Marcia Athey or Botany Fund.
